What BMR measures
Basal metabolic rate is the energy your body needs to keep basic functions running while you are completely at rest. That means breathing, circulating blood, keeping your brain active, and repairing cells. It does not include a single step of walking or any food digestion.

What TDEE adds on top
Total daily energy expenditure is everything you burn across a full day. It starts with your BMR and then adds the energy used to digest food, the calories from planned exercise, and the calories from all the small movements you make like walking, fidgeting and standing.

How the two numbers relate
